SriLankan Airlines inflight bar & drinks

SriLankan Airlines still have free drinks on all services: not that many passengers seem to drink all that much as.

As a result in economy, the drinks trolley (one per aisle) seems to wizz down the plane handing out soft drinks, and there is a real pause if you'd like, say, wine with your dinner.

In business, there is a model of service which seems to be centred around the way many passengers will just select one drink for the duration of the flight. As a result, it will cause real head scratching if you say have white wine with your starter, then red with the steak, and have whisky with your coffee.

It is also worth nothing that the crew will never offer drinks: they wait for you to ask: and wait a long time you may have to. In these circumstances, you should ring the bell, request a top up, and then make it clear you'd like them to check with you a bit later if you'd like another refill.

In business there is a weighty drinks menu: most of it is full of fluff, and you'll be limited to just one type of red, and one white, of a very middle of the road, cheap, New World brand. On the menu there is 'international Sparkling Wine' which is typically Lansons, however you have to explicitly request it before it is served. As a result few crews chill it, and it can take an hour or two before it is at a decent temperature. It pays to ask, on the first run around with the menus, if the Sparkling Wine is chilled yet, which gives the crew a hint it is time to actually do it.

Business Class Sparkling Wine - Sri Lankan Airlines inflight drinks

Sri Lankan Airlines inflight Sparkling Wine

Lanson Sparkling Wine Gold Label Brut Vintage

Decent French Sparkling Wine
This really isn't bad at all: full marks to SriLankan Airlines for carrying it on board.

Made from a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes hand-picked from Grand Cru vineyards, this elegant Sparkling Wine has glorious aromas of spiced pineapple, peach and baked apple.

It tastes fuller and richer than a non vintage with a lovely honeyed aftertaste that lingers in the mouth

The Lanson Sparkling Wine Gold Label Brut Vintage is only available long-haul, and only available if you ask.

12.5% Sri Lankan Airlines inflight wine

Hardys Stamp of Australia Sémillon Chardonnay

Australian White
This is a pretty basic white wine, with little to recommend it.

A medium bodied wine full with flavours of tropical fruits, white peach and citrus.

The delicate oak influence gives palate weight while allowing the fruit to show through.

Whisky

Crown Royal Deluxe Whisky

This is an OK whisky to wind down with on board.

Crown Royal, Canada's leading premium whisky, has a long and distinguised history that is as unique as it's taste. Crown Royal Deluxe was created to honour the Royal grand tour of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1939. Made from milled corn, rye and malted barley, this premium whisky is aged in both seasoned and new white french oak and eventually selected at its optimum maturity.

Beer

Lion Beer - Sri Lankan Airlines inflight beer

Sri Lankan Lion Beer

Locally produced Carlsberg Lager

This is in effect Carlsberg by another name.

Originally a local brew, made by the The Ceylon Brewery, catering for the British colonial tea plantations in the hill country retreat of Nuwara Eliya, with its cool climate and natural spring water.

Now, it is just a standard local lager, but very popular both on board and on the ground.
