American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia have opened a new premium lounge at Miami International airport.
The new joint First Class and Business Class Miami lounge is located on Concourse E, just past the security checkpoint on the fifth floor. AA, BA and Iberia flights currently all operate from Terminal E, although BA will shortly abandon the joint lounge and open its own.
The newly opened lounge is pretty similar to most AA lounges, although the facilities are marginally better, with 6,000 square feet and offers seating for 120 guests.
There is a multi-functional Business Centre with work stations, some high-specification PCs with complimentary high-speed Internet access, and wifi. There are two main TV lounges with flat-screen TVs, a children's room and showers that AA report are “spa-like”.
There is also complimentary food, although limited to the usual AA bar snacks mix and plus some croissants with jam & cheese. It gets slightly better in the evening, when for the main overnight flights over the Atlantic there is a light supper menu with a soup of the day, and the delight of mini sandwiches.
The bar is very basic indeed, with just one counter with a two type of wine in buckets, and beer in the fridge below, including Stella. There is a coffee machine, and juice in the standard glass tub.
Although the lounge will be open permanently for AA flights, and it is a designated Oneworld lounge, it is mainly designed for Iberia and Lan. American also have two other lounges in the D coucourse, including a new First Class lounge. A newly renovated BA Galleries lounge will open in the Autumn in Concourse D, to where BA will move.
